Session 2: Forgiving Poles, Longitudinal Barriers
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  
Introduction to the strategic approach to make roadsides and medians safe by using countermeasures designed to either keep vehicles on the roadway, provide for a safe recovery if vehicles leave the roadway or reduce the severity of the crash.  A detailed explanation of the proper use of energy absorbing poles and longitudinal barriers will be provided to ensure properly tested product designed for the site conditions are used.

Session 3: Crash Cushions, Transitions & Terminals
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:                                        
Understand how crash cushions, terminals and transitions are designed to work. Learn how to select the correct crash cushion or terminal or transition for a hazard based on site specific criteria. The session will include a summary of the current testing criteria being used for these roadside safety products in Europe and the United States. Session will conclude with an examination on Roadside/Median Safety.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:                                        
Understand how crash cushions, terminals and transitions are designed to work. Learn how to select the correct crash cushion or terminal or transition for a hazard based on site specific criteria. The session will include a summary of the current testing criteria being used for these roadside safety products in Europe and the United States. Session will conclude with an examination on Roadside/Median Safety.

Session 4: Work Zone “Battlefield” - Fundamentals of Work Zone Safety
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:                                                     
Gain an understanding how to design a safe work zone using proper temporary traffic control plans based on the length of time for the project, the number of vehicles and the proximity of the work to the roadway. Use of the Manual of Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) will be discussed as well as an introduction to a variety of work zone safety concepts, including portable barriers, Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMA), portable crash cushions, flaggers, proper horizontal and vertical signage and portable traffic signals.
